[00:00:00] Speaker A: You're in for a treat. Today. We're talking to tigers.
[00:00:04] Speaker B: Let's get started.
[00:00:06] Speaker C: Sir, I will live with perseverance in the spirit of taekwondo, courtesy for fellow students, integrity within myself, and to become a black belt leader.
Welcome to the ATA Nation podcast.
[00:00:25] Speaker A: It welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, masters, students, instructors of song on Taekwondo to the ATA Nation podcast. This is episode 104, and I am your host, senior master Zach Hayden. I am super excited to be here with you today.
Before we get to our main topic, I wanted to do a little bit of listener feedback.
[00:00:53] Speaker C: Listener feedback.
[00:00:59] Speaker A: Well, it is always great to hear from those out there in Ata Nation. We had a couple of emails and messages out there. I wanted to mention first on Instagram a new follow. And I don't mention most of the time that we just. When we get follows, but mango martial arts in Ireland. I was super excited. We might have to reach out to you guys out there in Ireland and have an interview with you. Super cool to have another ATA school out in Europe following us.
Maybe someday when my family makes a trip out there, we'll get to check you guys out as well. So mango martial arts. Shout out to them. New followers from ATA headquarters. Got a nice message from Alexandra Fuller, who works there at headquarters listening to podcast, really enjoying it. And then two adult students that are newer in the martial arts that I was really excited to hear from John Lehrman, who's a purple know, started martial arts not that long ago.
He's a little older than I am, so I love to hear that. That's super cool. And then Jeremy Feeney, not only is your last name the same as one of the best principals in any story ever, but another adult student who started as an adult, and they both reached out to me and said they enjoyed the podcast and whatnot. So really excited to hear from some of our listeners out there. Saw some other ones commenting in our Facebook group and a bunch of people checking out the workout template. Definitely make sure that you guys are checking that out as well. Let me know what you think about it. Shoot me an email comment in the Facebook group. Send me a DM on Instagram. Any of those would be awesome. Okay, guys, let's get to our main topic.
[00:02:55] Speaker C: Special guest interview.
[00:03:01] Speaker A: Now. Our special interview. Our special guests today are a little different than usual. I decided that I would interview some tigers, and so I decided to interview my daughter and then some of the tigers at our school, because tigers are just cute, adorable, amazing little creatures that we have at our AJ schools. And I love teaching tigers. I love a good big class of AtA Tigers. I think it's a lot of fun. I will tell you, my daughter has started taekwondo in the last six months or so, and she's four. And it is a whole new challenge as an instructor. I've taught martial arts for 25 years, taught tigers.
I don't want to brag or anything, but I'm good with kids. I'm a kid guy, I'm a kid person. And so I love that. But let me tell you, having your own kid do it and then your own kid is kind of a challenge.
Doesn't focus, doesn't stand in line.
Half the class she's in. A world of her own has just been a brand new adventure for me as an instructor and something that I'm continuing to work with.
It's helped me in being able to express to other parents, like, hey, I understand your kids not doing what you want out there, but it's a growing process. It's going to happen. It just is going to take some time. Everybody's got their own steps, their own journey.
As I watch her, it makes me think that I need to dive even further into the ATA skills program and look at those stages of development and just see how different kids are at different stages of development.
So it has been quite an adventure. We love Ata Tigers. Let's get to our first interview, nap nation. I have with us today a very special guest. This is. What's your name? Hazel. And, Hazel, are you in taekwondo?
[00:05:20] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:05:21] Speaker E: Yes.
[00:05:21] Speaker A: What kind of taekwondo do you do?
[00:05:24] Speaker B: Are you a tiger?
[00:05:26] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:05:26] Speaker E: You're an.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: What, uh, what belt are you?
[00:05:32] Speaker D: A yellow belt.
[00:05:33] Speaker A: A yellow belt. Very good. Awesome. And what is one of the things that you really love about your tiger class?
[00:05:42] Speaker D: Breaking boards.
[00:05:43] Speaker A: Breaking boards. What's your favorite board?
[00:05:45] Speaker B: Break.
[00:05:46] Speaker A: Do you like to kick it or do you like to hit it with your hand?
[00:05:48] Speaker D: I hit it with my.
[00:05:49] Speaker A: You like to hit it with your hand?
[00:05:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:51] Speaker A: What other things do you do in tiger class?
[00:05:54] Speaker D: Punching on the bags.
[00:05:56] Speaker B: Punching on the bags. What's your favorite kick?
Kick.
[00:06:01] Speaker A: Round kick. That's a good one. And we're working on a life skill right now. We say discipline is very good. Excellent. Have you been working on discipline at home?
[00:06:12] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:06:12] Speaker B: You have?
[00:06:13] Speaker A: Is it hard?
[00:06:16] Speaker D: Sometimes.
[00:06:17] Speaker A: Sometimes?
[00:06:18] Speaker B: Good.
[00:06:21] Speaker A: What's your next goal? What do you want to get in your taekwondo classes?
Like a new belt. A new stripe.
[00:06:31] Speaker D: Stripe?
[00:06:32] Speaker A: A stripe. You're aiming for a new stripe?
[00:06:35] Speaker D: I'm aiming for one more black stripe.
[00:06:40] Speaker A: One more black stripe and then you'll be ready to test for what?
[00:06:42] Speaker B: Belt test for my cheery belt.
[00:06:48] Speaker A: Your cheery belt? That's so exciting. Very good. Which one is your favorite tiger animal or your favorite tiger character?
[00:06:57] Speaker D: Bao.
[00:06:58] Speaker E: Bao is your favorite.
[00:07:00] Speaker B: Why?
[00:07:02] Speaker D: Because he's a little bigger than aura.
[00:07:09] Speaker A: He's a little bigger than aura. You're right.
We, like, got you, like, the tiger books.
[00:07:16] Speaker E: We've been reading those.
[00:07:17] Speaker D: Yeah, reading.
I've never been reading the bao book.
[00:07:25] Speaker A: Not the bao book.
[00:07:26] Speaker D: I've only been reading the aura book.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: The aura book. Is that one your favorite?
[00:07:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Very good.
[00:07:32] Speaker D: That one's my favorite.
[00:07:34] Speaker B: Excellent.
[00:07:34] Speaker A: Well, I'm so glad you came on the podcast today. Is there anything you want to tell.
[00:07:38] Speaker B: All our ATa friends?
[00:07:45] Speaker D: Let me think about it.
[00:07:46] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:07:51] Speaker A: Dead airtime is really good on a podcast.
[00:07:55] Speaker D: Don't mind.
[00:07:57] Speaker A: Oh, about your friend music. You met a good friend at Taekwondo, didn't you?
[00:08:00] Speaker D: Yeah, I met a good friend that's named music.
[00:08:04] Speaker A: That's named music. You like to take class with music, don't you?
[00:08:06] Speaker D: Yeah, she brings me some.
[00:08:13] Speaker B: Oh, that's so fun.
[00:08:14] Speaker A: It's so nice to meet friends at Taekwondo, isn't it? Well, thank you so much for being.

[00:08:19] Speaker D: Yeah, it's good. And don't forget, come back next time.

[00:08:27] Speaker A: Come back next time, guys.
[00:08:30] Speaker D: We'll see you on another podcast.
[00:08:33] Speaker A: You did great, ma'am. Thank you so much. Remember, remind me, when we go to Taekwondo today, we should ask some other. So as you can tell, that was an interview with my daughter. If you want to check out the full video of both of these tiger interviews, we're going to put those out on our reels on Instagram. And we all know tigers are adorable. So let's get to my other group of tigers that I interviewed.

[00:09:57] Speaker E: Spear. Spear. Very good. That's a good one. Benson, what's one of your favorite things?
Sore. That's a neat one. We've been working on that some with our leadership, tigers. Reagan, what about you? What's one of your favorite things? Nunchucks. Oh, yeah.
Nunchucks is a good one. That's a good one. Hey, what about your favorite. You guys have a favorite board break? What's your favorite board break?
You would like to break? The blue one. Oh, you're super tough.
Do you like to do it with your hand or your foot? Jackson? Your hand. Very good.
Your hand and your foot both. Reagan, what about you? How do you like to hand and foot? You just like breaking things. What about sparring? Some of you guys have started sparring, kicking and punching each other. Do you like to do that then? Yeah, and we've been working on discipline right now. Discipline is very good. What's one way we might show discipline?
[00:11:01] Speaker D: Jackson, what's one way to follow the rules?
[00:11:05] Speaker E: Follow the law. That's a great way to show discipline. We always make sure we follow the rules. Pro, you got another?
What?
[00:11:15] Speaker D: Doing the right thing right away.
[00:11:18] Speaker E: Doing the right thing and doing it right away.
[00:11:20] Speaker A: That's fantastic. Very good.
[00:11:21] Speaker E: Okay, let me ask you, if you could ask grandmaster, if you could ask grandmaster, the guy in charge, the highest rank in the NTA, a question about Taekwondo. What would your question about Taekwondo be? Jackson, you got one.
How strong are you? Oh, he's pretty strong. Maybe we'll have him on to ask. What would you ask him?
[00:11:44] Speaker D: Fast.
[00:11:46] Speaker E: How fast would he be? Oh, very good. Reagan, what do you think you'd ask grandmaster if you could ask grandmaster, how old is he? I bet he could answer that one. Mr. Benson, what about you?
[00:11:56] Speaker D: How tall?
[00:11:57] Speaker E: How tall is he? Very good. These are some great questions for.
He's doing some awesome kicks. Yeah, we've seen some great pictures.
You. That's a secret. I can't tell you guys that right now, but okay. Ata Nation, I want to do some interviews with tigers today. If you got an awesome interview with a tiger, send it my way.
[00:12:18] Speaker A: Well, that wraps up our interview with our tigers. If you have a great tiger that you think we should interview, have them do, like, a little submission video and send it over to us. We'd love to hear from them. Maybe we'll just include the audio on another episode. So let's go and check our upcoming events.
[00:12:38] Speaker C: Here's what's going on in Ata Nation.
[00:12:43] Speaker A: Hey, Ata Nation, we mentioned last week all the information about district championships is out. Make sure you check that out. Get your registrations in for nationals. That is coming around the corner real quick like. But I wanted to mention a couple of more things real quick.
There are some camps coming up for different regions, so you want to definitely check that out.
Region one three B in Las Vegas has a camp coming up March 2 and third, the european camp. We talked about that last week. The at Max gathering, the second one, the second ATA Max gathering. We did an interview last year about this. You definitely want to check that out. May 3 through the fifth at ATA headquarters. Athlete development camp registrations in June 20 to 23rd. Those are all available as well, so make sure you check that out and then just announce over the weekend, another leadership camp. I went to the last leadership camp that was in Little Rock two years ago, I think. And this one this year is going to be 2024 in December, December 5 through the eigth. As soon as the information came out, my wife was like, oh, you're going to be gone for our anniversary because December 5 is our anniversary.
But I asked if maybe she wanted to take a nice trip to Little Rock for our anniversary in December because I love me some leadership camps. Definitely make sure you're checking those out. Atamarshallarts.com. Go to the event section. Make sure you don't just check out the tournaments. Make sure you're checking out the training opportunities, the camps, all those kind of things as well. And just skip the class C tab, guys. Just don't go to the class C tab because you're going to get confused because those are other people's tournaments. You don't get to go to those.
You know about classy tournaments, right? Okay, we'll talk about it later. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, until next time, make sure you're out there taking action.
[00:14:54] Speaker C: Thanks for listening to another episode of the ATA Nation podcast. Be sure to subscribe and share with your ATA family.
[00:15:09] Speaker B: Secret part.
[00:15:10] Speaker A: Secret part.
Guys, interviewing my daughter was a blast. You got to check out the video. I know I'm biased, but she's adorable.
She's super adorable, though. In class sometimes excruciatingly furious is how I feel. But yeah, she'll get better. She's stuck with this taekwondo thing for a while.
Hope you enjoyed the episode. Send me an email or a DM or whatever later.
